Jane Leeves was born in England and was raised in East Grinstead. In her childhood, she wanted to be a ballerina. But at 18, she had a tragic ankle accident and had to give up her dreams of being a ballerina. Then, she turned towards acting and landed her first role as a topless angel in ‘The Meaning of Life‘. Next, she appeared in ‘The Benny Hill Show’ but all these roles were not satisfactory and she struggled a lot to establish herself. Her hard work got her a role in the sitcom ‘Throb!‘. In ‘Murphy Brown’, she landed a recurring role. She is also seen in Seinfeld episodes, namely ‘The Virgin’, ‘The Contest’, ‘The Pilot’ and ‘The Finale- Part 2‘. In the mean time, she portrayed Holly in the US version of the science fiction ‘Red Dwarf’. In the popular series ‘Frasier’, spin-off of ‘Cheers’, she appeared as Daphne Moon, the eccentric and semi-psychic physiotherapist. She starred for 11 years on the show. She has got an Emmy Award nomination for her role in ‘Frasier’ and has also become the highest paid British actress in Hollywood. Jane also gave her voice to an animated movie named ‘James and the Giant Peach’. She appeared in movies including ‘Music of the Heart’ and the 1985 movie ‘To live and Die in LA’.
She married Marshall Coben, a CBS Paramount Television Executive in 1996 and the couple has two children- Isabella Kathryn and Finn William. She co-owns a production company Bristol Cities with her former ‘Frasier’ co-star Peri Gilpin.
Role on Frasier
Jane Leeves portrays Daphne Moon, the eccentric and semi-psychic physiotherapist. She moves in Dr. Frasier’s luxurious apartment with his father Martin as his (Martin’s) physiotherapist. Niles, Dr. Frasier’s younger brother, falls in love with her after their first meet.
