Frasier TV Show

John Mahoney is very well known in TV world for his role as Martin Crane in ‘Frasier’. He has seven siblings and he attended St. Joseph’s College. After the Second World War, his family moved back to Manchester, their home town, and he started studying acting at the Stratford Youth Theater. Then, he moved to USA after his sister agreed to sponsor him. He joined United States Army to become a US Citizen and in 1959, he received USA citizenship. In early 1970s, he taught English at Western Illinois University and also worked as an editor of a medical journal.

These odd jobs were not satisfactory for him and he was eager for a change. After a stage production in 1977, he joined Steppenwolf Theater and won the Clarence Derwent Award as the Most Promising Male Newcomer. In 1986, he won Broadway’s Tony Award as the Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in ‘The House of Blue Leaves’.

He made his movie debut in 1980 and his movie credits include- ‘Suspect’, ‘Moonstruck’, ‘Eight Men Out’, ‘Frantic’, ‘Betrayed’, ‘Say Anything…’, ‘Barton Fink’, ‘The Water Engine’, ‘In the Line of Fire’, ‘Striking Distance’, ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’, ‘The American President’, ‘Primal Fear’, ‘Antz’, ‘The Broken Hearts Club’.

He also gave his voice for movies such as ‘Antz’, ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’, ‘The Iron Giant’, ‘and Kronk’s New Groove’. He also voiced Dr. Robert Terwilliger Sr. in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’. He also appeared in the 13th season of ER. In 2007 romantic comedy film ‘Dan in Real Life’, he portrayed the father of Steve Carell and Dane Cook.

Role on Frasier

In ‘Frasier’, he appeared as Martin Crane- an ex-cop. He’s Dr. Frasier’s father who moves in with him after his retirement. As he’s an unable to live by himself due to an injury so Daphne Moon is appointed as his physical therapist. His arrival ruins Dr. Frasier’s plans to lead a peaceful life.
